Master the Art of Sprint Paddling
If you are looking for an incredible core workout, a new challenge, and a great way to meet friends on the water, and are aged 18+ our highly popular Masters Racing program is for you.
We offer a variety of paddling options for adults interested in developing their skills in Sprint Canoe and Kayak. Throughout the season, athletes will train in singles, doubles, and larger team boats under the guidance of our experienced coaches. Athletes will learn proper technique, participate in workouts if the wish, and prepare for regattas if they choose to race.
Beginners vs. Returning Paddlers
You do not need any previous experience to join the Masters program. However, because sprint boats are narrow and require balance, we structure our start dates based on experience for your safety and comfort:
Returning Paddlers
We offer dedicated Spring training. Once you are registered, Coach Kelly will contact you directly with your early-season start dates and information.
Beginners
You are warmly welcomed to join the program starting in June, once the water conditions on the South Georgian Bay are more favorable and warmer for learning. Once registered, your coach will reach out to coordinate your first session!
To Race, or Not to Race?
While this is a “Racing” program featuring structured training plans, competing at regattas is entirely optional. Likewise, participants can choose to “Train or not to train”, and treat it as a workout session, or just to learn proper technique. Many of our Masters athletes join simply for the incredible fitness benefits and the joy of mastering a sleek boat on the water. For those with a competitive itch, there are plenty of opportunities to race at regional regattas throughout the summer!
Equipment & Included Perks
The club provides all the necessary sprint canoes, kayaks, and paddles for your training sessions. We ask that all athletes bring comfortable athletic clothing (that can get wet!), a towel, a water bottle, and their own properly-fitted, Transport Canada-approved Personal Flotation Device (PFD). We have a wide selection of Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs), but feel free to bring your own if preferred.
Bonus: Free Open Paddle Access & Endurance!
Want to put in some extra miles outside of your coached Wednesday and Saturday sessions? As a registered Masters paddler, you are highly encouraged to attend our Open Paddle and Endurance Paddling program sessions at absolutely no additional cost! It is the perfect opportunity to work on your technique, improve your fitness, or just enjoy a relaxing sunset paddle.
